Artist Bio
For as long as I can remember, I've loved to draw. Growing up in New Mexico, I was surrounded by the rich landscape and unique culture of the Southwest. I believe the combination of the two helped to develop my deep appreciation of color.
After receiving my formal art training at the Colorado Institute of Art, I returned to Albuquerque and founded my studio "Laughing At The Moon."
Growing up in the southwest, the most exotic thing I could imagine was living on an island in the middle of the Pacific. In 1996, we made that fantasy a reality and moved to Kona.
The following year we adopted our first Poi Dog, "Cosmo" who became the inspiration of many of my paintings. Then came her side kick Stevie Rae.... Fast forward 20 years and we now have Buster Posey, Pi ( because she has 3.14 legs), Fredo ( another Tri) and our newest, Q-Tip who is a white ball of fur with boundless energy.
Speaking of inspiration - I am surrounded by so much beauty every day I never run out of subject matter. Another passion is travel, and no matter where I go I seem to come back with a suitcase full of ideas for new works.
I work in many different mediums from pencil and ink on watercolor paper to oils to acrylic and gouache on masonite. I believe different concepts lend themselves to different techniques. My hand colored giclée prints are an example of this. These three dimensional creations use a variety of mediums and techniques to achieve their distinctive look.
I have been fortunate to have been involved in many interesting projects over the years. One of my favorites was when I was commissioned by Pepsi to create commemorative pieces for all the musical artists that preformed at Denver's Pepsi Center. Recipients included Carlos Santana, U2, The Dixie Chicks, and many more. More recently my involvement with Ironman and creating original works each year for the race keeps me busy and on my toes creatively.
It is very rewarding and exciting to know my art is hanging in homes and offices all around the world.
Thank you for your interest and support.
