Kailua Kona
Kailua Kona
I feel so fortunate to live in Kailua Kona. There are so many things that make this former little fishing village the special place that it is. This is the way I see Kona. The waves splashing the seawall, the first "Grander" of the season (a thousand pound marlin), the Hulihe'e palace, which was the vacation residence of Hawaiian Royalty, and the Mokuaikaua Church. It was the first church in the islands, formed in 1820 and built in 1836. Behind town I have dormant volcano Hualalai with Kilauea to the south and a snow capped Mauna Kea to the north. I have also included Kona coffee trees, coconut palms, papaya trees, African Tulips trees and all the other beautiful plants and flowers that make up the colorful palette I call home.
