Truly one of the most spectacular things to do while in Hawaii is swim with the Mantas at night. These gentle creatures are huge, their wingspan averaging 22 feet, and filter feeders, meaning no teeth. They do a gentle ballet, attracted by the lights lowered into the ocean, which attracts plankton, their main source of food. This is my interpretation. I first swam with the Mantas as a diver over 20 years ago and it is an experience I will never forget. The original was done in colored pencil, ink, and acrylic.
