Pele's Dream
Pele's Dream
In Pele's Dream, I wanted to tell a story about the Big Island and all of the things that make it such a special place. I have Madame Pele, the volcano Goddess, in the center, with her hair streaming in soft waves as a waterfall turning into the volcano Kilauea, becoming lava, and then making its way to the sea. At the bottom, I have three little Humuhumunukunukuapuas swimming by. There is the sailing canoe Hokulea in front of a snow-capped Mauna Kea. The navigational stars that led the ancient Polynesians to the Hawaiian Islands hang in the night sky. I have featured my favorite flowers, Anthurium, Bird of Paradise, our state flower Hibiscus, and Ti leaves. There are Honu (turtle) petroglyphs, Kona coffee cherry and finally, a long Plumeria lei.
