Truly one of the most spectacular things to do while in Hawaii is swim with the Mantas at night. These gentle creatures are huge, their wingspan averaging 22 feet, and filter feeders, meaning no teeth. They do a gentle ballet, attracted by the lights lowered into the ocean, which attracts plankton, their main source of food. This is my interpretation. I first swam with the Mantas as a diver over 20 years ago and it is an experience I will never forget.

When I print a limited edition on canvas it is customary to print a few “test runs” to check color, type of canvas, etc. I usually do them smaller, sometimes the same size as the edition, but more often than not they are a quarter to half the size of the original. Any that aren’t up to my standards are destroyed . The ones that do reflect the final issue are noted as an “artist proof”. There are never more than 10 of these, usually less. Also they are usually not a standard size so that is why I have them mounted and custom framed.
